Homemade Baseball Mitt Birthday Cake
This baseball mitt birthday cake was for my son's 5th birthday. I rented the pan for $1 at a local cake store which is a huge savings. He picked his favorite flavor (chocolate) which is ideal since most of the icing is chocolate. I usually purchase the pre-made Wilton icing because it has the perfect consistency for making the stars. What's even better is Wilton now makes a chocolate icing so I didn't have to tint most of the icing.
I tinted a small amount of white with a little brown to make the web of the glove tan in color. I tinted some of the brown icing with black to make the laces a bit darker. I piped on the white icing for the ball with the red stitching. I added green grass around the glove to hid the edges and to give it a spring look and add a bright color to the glove.
