Homemade Basketball Jersey Birthday Cake

This Basketball Jersey Birthday Cake was a birthday cake request that needed to travel - 4 hours!! I made the cake support out of wood to add support. The cake also has internal supports - several wooden dowels, to make sure the cake doesn't slide during travel.

The cake was a 3 layered sheet cake that I cut down to size to make the design. To ensure that both sides are identical I actually cut the right side first in 1 piece and flipped that piece over onto the left side and used it as my template! Usually you have to shave down a little more to make it perfect, but it helps to keep things even!!

I didn't use fondant on this cake because of how far it had to travel, this is all buttercream.
