This is our Homemade Batmobile Birthday Cake which we made for our Batman mad son Charlie for his 3rd birthday.

I have attached the template we made using an aerial view of the 1989 classic Batmobile. This will make your life a lot easier if you want to make this cake.

We made two layers of chocolate cake and cut them both to the shape of the template. (See Photo). Then filled between the layers and covered the cake in chocolate butter icing as you would with most cakes. (See photo)

Then we used black chocolate flavoured ready to roll icing and covered the cake. After that it was a case of using icing tools to create the shape. The wings are seperate pieces of icing and the metallic turbine/grills/petrol cap are black icing sprayed with edible silver spray. The tyres, air vents and windscreen were painted with edible black airbrush colouring to give them extra shine.

The cake went down a treat and tasted really nice as well. I hope you have a go at doing this cake it was hilarious fun making it. This was our first attempt at a birthday cake and there is no way we are ever buying one again, creating one is much more enjoyable.

Chocolate flavour black sugarpaste?
by: Anonymous

That really is a great cake and just what I'm looking for - thank you for sharing. : )
Could I just ask with the icing whether you mean that you bought chocolate flavored brown sugarpaste and then colored that black, or if you actually found a black icing that was already chocolate flavored? Thanks.
Black icing usually tastes horrid so I've been really worried about how the cake will taste!
