Bear Cake

Bear Cake

My friend's little girl was having a build-a-bear party and wanted a bear cake. I have to admit this photo really doesn’t do the cake justice - as the brown looks darker than it was, but the kids loved it. The little girl was very excited about it.

To make it I used 2 9in rounds, sandwiched together with vanilla frosting. Then the ears, collar and nose I just cut of a sheet cake. The whole lot covered with chocolate icing. The original photo I used to get the idea used vanilla frosting with brown & yellow colors mixed in, which made it slightly more lighter looking.

The cake I made them out of Betty Crocker mix. To make a cake really tasty and moist I learnt a trick that instead of water replace with milk, and instead of the oil use butter/margarine melted - makes it taste so much nicer.

All the cakes I made a few days before and froze as its easier to work with frozen cakes I have found. Pretty simple for the eye-brows & nose - I just piped on with a brown icing squeeze bottle.

The crown & ribbons were bought from Michaels in the teddy / doll section, and the rest was candy decorations bought from the local shop.
