Five Little Monkeys Jumping On A Bed Cake

Five Little Monkeys Jumping On A Bed Cake

This bed cake was made with a sheet cake pan, the finished cake was split, iced in the middle, then cut in half and pillow sculpted with extra cake. First I iced the outside of the cake with frosting, then prepared the fondant.

I used white fondant for the bedspread then cut out stripes of pink, yellow and orange fondant, topped with purple hearts of fondant. I used a paint brush with water to help afix the fondant to itself. For the head and foot board I used my favorite gingerbread recipe and cut out the large 'cookies' of the foot and head boards. I used a fondant to make the flower motifs and painted the fondant with food coloring gel.

I was inspired to make this cake when my almost two year old daughter started reciting the 5 little monkeys story. She would put her little tiny finger up and shake it with vigor and say, "Doctor said, no more monkey's jumping on the bed!" We all would giggle and then ask her again, "What did that doctor say?" To which she would unceasingly reply, "NO MORE MONKEYS JUMPING ON THE BED!" She is now 2 1/2 and still loves monkeys!

Monkeys

I got the monkeys at Target - they were in the doll section with all the little things that little girls love. Funny, this year my daughter is turning 3 and she wants another monkey cake!
