Homemade Belly Cake
My sister has one child and is expecting her second. Her first child is adopted and he is a wonderful little boy. After years of infertility they finally conceived their miracle little belly bean. They're due in 3 weeks. I wanted to do something special for her so I found this website and loved the idea. I based the whole theme on a Belly Cake.
My friend Tami and I used a soccer ball pan for the belly. The neck and chest area is made of a round cake and cut to form the neck, then a boob pan for the chest. We mixed food coloring to make the skin tone and the polka dots. Use 1 drop of red and 1 drop of yellow depending on the fondant size you're using to make the skin tone. Keep adding only a drop of each color to get the color you desire.
To make purple we mixed blue and red food coloring. We used Pearlized Sprinkles/Sugar Pearls for decorating the top of the dress by the cleavage area and for embellishment in the braids. We used the steam technique for the shine on the fondant, it worked okay.
We had a lot of fun making this cake. I can't wait for the shower.
