Homemade Bicycle Cake
I made this Bicycle Cake for our son's 10th birthday, yes he got a new bike. I made two 15cm cakes for the wheels (didn't have the right size tin so used a pot, handle screwed off and it worked well)and a 24cm cake for the frame. Drew a picture as a pattern for the bike frame, cut it out and layed on top of the cake and cut around it.
I iced the whole thing with white buttercream icing, then outlined the bike frame with icing gel pen and piped red icing on for the frame. Then made black icing for the seat, handle bars, pedals and spokes. The tires are covered with licorice straps and the chain is a licorice twist. The chain sprocket is silver cachous balls and jellybeans for reflectors.
The kids loved it.
