Coolest Birthday Fairy Cake
I made a Princess cake for my mom’s birthday. My sister fell in love with it and her grand daughter’s 13th birthday was coming up. She always wanted to buy her a Barbie Doll cake, but they were too expensive. As I already had the Wonder Mold, I told her I would make her a cake. Paige is into Fairy’s right now so I made her a Birthday Fairy Cake.
I made a double chocolate fudge cake in the Wonder Mold pan and an additional 10″ round for the bottom of the gown. I found a $5.00 Fairy Barbie with pink hair to use. I froze the cakes so I could more easily cut the circle from the centers to place the doll (frozen double fudge chocolate cake is too die for! LOL).
I attached the two cakes together, then iced with homemade buttercream icing. I rolled out a circle of fondant that I had tinted pink and draped it around the cakes. I then took some of the same pink fondant and inlaid it with pink candy crystals and used this for the bodice. I formed the bodice on the doll and inserted her into the cake. I then used two different tones of green fondant to cut out the leaves for the “leaf” skirt. I used icing coloring gel to paint the details on the leaves.
I made all of the butterflies and the butterfly wings with my computer on photo paper and cut them out. I applied glitter to them and let them dry. I then glued two back to back for each individual butterfly.
I used the wired edge of wired ribbon to attach the wings to the doll. I made the lady bugs from left over red fondant from my son’s car cake. Frosted the rest of cake form with tinted buttercream, attached butterfly to her hand. The headband, waistband and green leaves on the base were from a discounted Christmas pick.
I posed her so that she is admiring the butterfly that is sitting on her hand. I attached the free flying butterflies with florist wire. Happy Thirteenth Birthday Paige!
