Easy Homemade Bob the Builder Scene Birthday Cake

My son really wanted a Bob the Builder cake for his 3rd birthday, so I searched this site to get some ideas for a Bob the Builder Birthday Cake. I combined several ideas that I found, and also came up with some of my own.

I baked the 2 cakes with a Wilton 11x15x2 inch cake pan, which took 3 cake mixes. For the filling I used Instant JELLO Vanilla Pudding, which really made the cake moist. I started by doing a crumb coat and letting the cake sit in the refrigerator over night, then started decorating the next day.

For the icing I used a buttercream icing using green for the top, and brown for the sides of the cake. I found a wood textured fondant and icing stamp to make the sides look like wood, and also used the brown for my dirt path “3”. For the dirt I used a large icing tip for icing a whole cake. The icing started out smooth and then started coming out very clumpy, which was a total accident, but I thought it was a perfect for what I needed for “Roley”! For the writing, I attempted to recreate the Bob the Builder logo by using icing tip #15. My icing was starting to get stiff, so I had a hard time getting it exactly how I wanted it, and the wording is kind of hard to read, but I accomplished the overall look I wanted. I used the icing tip #233 for the random grass, and also used this tip for the boarder on the top and the bottom edge of the cake.

I purchased some construction trucks and set them on the cake, using crushed Oreos as dirt, and S’mores ice cream topping as rocks.
