Homemade Bob The Tomato Balls Birthday Cake
This is how I made the Bob The Tomato Balls Birthday Cake:
Prepare your favorite cake in a 13 X 9 pan and allow to cool completely. Divide the cake into quarters and rub each quarter together over a large mixing bowl, creating cake crumbs. Break up any large crumbs. Mix in apx. 3/4 of a tub of store bought frosting and roll the mixture into balls. I made @ 24 'Bobs' about 2" a piece.
Chill in the fridge for several hours or overnight. Melt red candy coating in a double boiler, I used between 1 and 2 pounds. Take a few cake balls out of the fridge at a time and dip one at a time in the melted coating. Spoon extra over on coated areas. Lift the cake ball up and tap the handle of the spoon a few times. The excess coating will fall into the pan and create a smooth candy surface. Place on wax paper. If the coating pools, draw around the edges with a toothpick. Allow to cool.
Melt green and white candy melts in candy-squeeze bottles and pipe the tops and eyes (or buy a white candy writer). For the mouth and pupils I used a food decorating pen.
