Homemade Bow Cake

Homemade Bow Cake

This bow cake was made for a friend's 22nd birthday. The cake inside is s butter cake recipe (Duncan Hines and it tasted really yummy). Its iced with a crusting buttercream recipe (then I dyed a soft pink). I then used the paper towel method (Google it) to smooth out my edges (icing a cake properly is like the hardest thing for me).

I then used the same color frosting to pipe some swirly designs on the cake with a plain circle tip. It great to add a little texture to the cake since its the same color and it also makes your imperfections blend in).

I then made my bow. I rolled my embosser over the edges to create a "fabric seam". I stuffed the bow loops with paper towel while they dried. The ribbon edges hanging out the cake were placed on the side to dry and positioned so that they would flow I guess you can call it.

After all was dry (overnight is best but I was in a rush so it was more like a couple of hours) and set, I adhered the bow with some royal icing and dusted it with pink luster dust. It was prettier in person, in the photo it just looks sweaty.
