Homemade Bulldog Birthday Cake

This bulldog birthday cake is a cake for a huge Ga. Football Fan. The cake is a chocolate fudge cake with buttercream frosting. Fondant is used for a clean and easy way to sculpt the face, with powder food coloring for shadows in the wrinkles. The other items shown are made of cake, sugar paste and chocolate as well.

The coke cup is made of gum paste filled with the same chocolate cake and icing, the nacho's have cake below topped with melted colored chocolate and chips made of gum paste and painted with gel food colorng mixed with a little vodka, (to help in drying time). The hotdog is sculpted of rice cereal treats then covered in fondant with royal icing for mustard and ketsup.

This is my first attempt at making a sculpted cake, it's only as hard as you make it. The best way to start is with a cardboard cut out of the outlined picture which I printed from the computer, then start building up any areas with cake you have cut away put a nice crumb coat on before adding the fondant and let the artist in you do the rest.

Way too cute.

My 7 yr old grandson just asked me to make him a bulldog cake for his 8th birthday. He is an GA Bulldog fan as is his dad. I will be attempting and hoping it looks 1/2 as good as yours....great job. Are the ears sculpted or gum paste?

Help

I live in Louisiana and my son wants this for his 16th birthday. The team he plays football for is the bulldogs. Is there any way that I can get some directions on the bulldog.

Thanks,
Barbara

hi!
LOVE the cake! I have been searching for a full body 3D cake pan in order to try to make a cake replica of my son's British bulldog, chief. What did you use for your cake mold? You did an excellent job, especially for a first time! I'm quite impressed...p.s.do you know if such a full body cake mold exists? if not, then...suggestions?
Thanks!

If that's your first sculpted cake, then WOW! I've been doing these things for 2 years now and I think you got me beat.
