Coolest Bumblebee Cupcake Cake

For my daughter’s 1st birthday I decided to do a Bumble bee theme party and like always I got ideas from this website for a Bumblebee Cupcake Cake and also from a Youtube video titled “How to make a fondant bumble bee”.

I bought a big cupcake mold and decided to make the top part the bee hive. I did not decorate the bottom cup portion and made it out of a chocolate zucchini recipe I found online. The top portion was a carrot mandarin cake and everyone was so amazed at how it turned out and how delicious the cake was. This was my first fondant cake.

I prepared six bees, flower accessories from cookie cutters and baked the cake two days before the party, and covered the cake with fondant the night before and added the bees & accessories the morning of the party. I wrote my daughter’s name with an edible marker. Since the bottom of the cake came out shorter than the top, I had a gap in the middle which I filled in with some rolled fondant which is hidden and a strip of fondant as you can see. If you follow the youtube video, it gives you a good step by step idea of making the bumblebees. Flatting the fondant that covered the beehive needed some strength from my husband and placing it on top of the cake was a bit tricky, you got to put it on a bit quick making sure not to stretch the fondant. I did stretch it a bit which resulted in slight cracks but I was still happy at the way it turned out. It was cute!

Thanks for this website, as an amateur at cake decorating, I find this website very helpful. Now it’s my turn to contribute.
