Cool Homemade Camping Cake with Sugar Cone Trees

I made this Camping Cake for my son’s 9th birthday camping party. I made four 9″ round cakes, two on top each other. For the trees, I used sugar cones, two or three stacked on top each other to make different heights. Some were placed behind the cakes, some were placed on the cake to create the “woods”. I used a knife to make “stucco” motions to create branches with the frosting.

I used candy rocks I purchased from an online baking store and fall leaves “sprinkles” to make the ground. The stream was white frosting with three different fancy blue sprinkles purchased at Ben Franklin in the cake decorating section. I also used decorator’s icing glaze which allowed me to make lots of shades of green. The “cake toppers” were a set (search Field and Stream camping cake topper) also purchased from an online baking store – the tent actually lights up! The canoe has a paddle and the candy rocks were perfect around the campfire. The number 9 was purcahsed at Target.

This cake was so easy, I actually was surprised at how well it came together!
