Coolest Candy Sundae Birthday Cake

My granddaughter came up with the theme for a Candy and Ice Cream Sundae Pool Party for her 9th Birthday. I made the Homemade Candy Sundae Birthday Cake out of Marshmallow Treats frosted with buttercream frosting and sprinkles to look like a sundae.

The table was set-up with a variety of candy displayed with the theme of flowers, bugs and butterflies. All of the guests decorated a sugar cone shaped sundae cup and filled it with candy for a take home treat. Along with theme shaped marshmallow treats we served make your own ice cream sundaes.

I found working with marshmallow treats is easier to shape than cake but the key to holding a round ball is to butter your hand to get the shape than wrap it in wax paper and place it in the freezer check it about every five minutes until the marshmallow is set. I used white whipped buttercream frosting and found it was very easy to apply and make it look like a scoop of ice cream.

To make the “strawberry” pink topping I took a small amount of frosting, added red food coloring and water than carefully drizzled it over the top and let it run down the sides. I placed it back in the freezer for about 10 minutes so it would set up than topped it with “whipped cream” white frosting. Once the frosting was set I used tweezers to place candy sprinkles on the sundae.

Candles were added at the last minute as I didn’t think the “sundae” could support the weight on a hot day.
