Cool Homemade Car Scene Cake

At one and a half, my son was in love with three things: cars, trucks and buses. His love was so great that I just had to give him a car-themed party for his 2nd birthday. My sister got me some car-shaped cake molds and that inspired me to make the cake car-themed as well.

I made a 9″x13″ sheet cake and placed it on a large piece of cardboard covered with foil. I covered the cake with white icing and began the construction of a road. I carefully spread light-blue icing to form the road in the shape of a “2” running along the cake and onto the sides of the foiled-cardboard. I lined the road with chocolate sprinkles.

I baked another cake in the car molds and my sisters and I intricately decorated each one, giving it a little personality. I placed the cars along the road, some driving onto the highway (the sheet cake) and some going off. I used some icing to create parking spaces for the two cars sitting on the side of the highway. I covered the exposed foil with green icing for a nice grassy effect, and topped the whole thing off with a “2” candle.

This Car Cake was a big hit and it was sad to see it get eaten!
