Homemade Carousel Birthday Cake
I made this Homemade Carousel Birthday Cake for my niece’s first birthday. I used a regular yellow cake. For the base of the carousel I made two layers in a 12 inch pan. I iced with a butter cream icing to ice between the layers as well as to decorate with.
I cut dowels and placed them in the middle of the cake to support the weight of the rest of the carousel. I used the cake plates for a wedding cake along with the pillars. I wrapped the pillars in crepe paper. I also cover the bottom plate in a gum paste so that it would blend. I made the horses with gum paste. The top of the carousel was a bundt cake. It wasn’t quite tall enough so I also made a cake in a bowl, then placed it on top. This was by far one of my personal best.
My niece is too young to appreciate all the work that went into this cake, but when I over heard my other 13 year old niece say that her Aunt Carrie always makes the coolest cakes, it was all worth it.
