Homemade Cars Birthday Cake
I made this Cars Birthday Cake for my nephew Hadley's third birthday. My sister asked me to make this for her and I love to make cakes, especially for family so I figured why not?
I had no idea how to start and originally was going to make a red cake but decided to cover it with fondant and do the checkerboard racing flag idea around the outside with black fondant.
My daughter came up with the idea of the roadway for the car to sit on. I now only wish I had a "mater" to fill the empty space, maybe next time!
The cake is rainbow chip and the icing is homemade buttercream flavored with banana and chocolate. I make my own fondant, cause the kids like the marshmallow recipe better than the store-bought stuff and I find it much easier to work with. AND it's so easy to make!
Enjoy!
