Cute Homemade Cars Racetrack Birthday Cake with Flags

My mom and I decided to make this Cars Racetrack Birthday Cake after glancing through the gallery. The ideas for racetracks were amazing and seemed simple. I made this for my son’s 4th birthday. I used 2 cake mixes, and used 9 inch round cakes. I then shaved off a bit of each and “glued” them together with icing.

I cheat with the icing and just add spoonfuls of powdered sugar to store bought icing to stiffen it up. I colored coconut by adding 5 drops of green food coloring in a plastic bag full of coconut. If you shake the bag, it will color itself.

Using a food processor, I grounded up Oreos to make the road. It tastes mush better than black icing! I used yellow pipe cleaners for the dashes because I was having trouble getting the icing to stick to the cookie road.

We finished with a cookie border. It was very simple, and from start to finish it took less than 2 hours to decorate.
