My son asked for a dog for his forth birthday. I love animals but with him and his twin (at the time-two year old) brothers I just couldn’t give him what he wanted so instead he ended up with this Homemade Carved Doggie Birthday Cake. It’s one of my favorite cakes I’ve created.
I sculpted the head out of rice cripy treats and covered it with fondant. The body is stacked and carved cake. I came up with a cool technique for the fur. I swirled dark brown dye into tan buttercream icing enough to create a muti-colored icing then painted onto the dogs body with a wide bristled basting brush.
It was awesome!
