Coolest Castle Birthday Cake

I made this castle birthday cake for my 4 year old daughter Leiannah. Like her parents, she loves anything medieval and wanted a cake fit for a princess. So my husband and I proceeded to make plans for her princess castle cake.

After getting everything I needed for the cake it took me close to 9 hours to put it together and decorate it, not including the 3 hours it took me to make the 98 individual flowers.

The cake is made of double layer strawberry cake with Strawberry icing (both store bought). Piping is buttercream icing done with tips 18, 2 and 3. Flowers made from royal icing using tip 401 (holding the bag with the bend of the tip on the bottom, make 5 petals in a star shape).

Turrets made from 4 ice cream cones stacked (cut off the top of the lower 3 cones and leave the top cone intact). Roof of turrets made from sugar cones cut to fit. Crenulations (battlements) are just sugar cubes placed on top of the cake.
