Coolest Castle Birthday Cake

The Castle Birthday Cake was constructed out of three 9-inch square layers for the base and 3 6-inch round layers for the upper structure, all filled and frosted with white whipped frosting. The square brick perimeters of the castle were made with sugar cubes. After I got the basic cake assembled, I put it in the fridge to chill while I worked on the towers.

The perimeter towers are constructed out of two cake-type ice cream cups, “glued” together at the small end with frosting and then decorated. For the peaks I iced five sugar cones and then sprinkled them with pink decorating sugar. After this had set for awhile, I placed them into the top “cup” portion of the tower. The flags are made out of purple metallic craft paper. I also slightly trimmed the back side of the towers to ensure that they would sit flush against the corners of the cake.

The top tower was decorated the same way as the outer towers, but constructed out of only one upside-down cake cup with a sugar cone placed on top.

After “gluing” all of the towers in place with icing, I hand-piped the vines, pink flowers, purple heart “window” and the purple door.

All together, this cake took about 20 hours for both baking and assembly time.
