Coolest Castle Birthday Cake

I made this Castle Birthday Cake for my granddaughter’s 4th birthday.

These cakes are iced first with buttercream icing. Then I rolled fondant out to the right height and width of each tier. I used the back side of a long knife to “etch” in the “stone work”. Then just wrapped the fondant around the cake. I used the paste icing coloring mixed with a small amount of water to “paint” the purple color on. I used fondant with a toothpick inserted to make the battlements(or crenelations). I let them dry and painted them with the same paint and inserted them into the cake. Then I just decorated the doors and added vines and flowers.

I used the Wilton premade towers but wish I had just used ice cream cones, as I have on another cake (one regular cone with a waffle cone on top upside down, then iced and sprinkled). I did use fondant on the tower roofs, wetted very slightly and sprinkled with purple colored sugar.

I also cheated on the cake, we didn’t need that much and I didn’t have a pan that small, so the top is actually a plastic tub from store bought icing, just wrapped in fondant (icing applied to the backside to make it stick). I added the figurines that she wanted on the cake.
