Homemade Castle Birthday Cake

This Castle Birthday Cake was made by me as a little girl's first birthday cake. The theme of the party was fairytake.

The cake was relatively easy. I made a chocolate cake (quite a dense one – like fruit cake) went over it with pink cream cheese icing, and when it was not quite set I re-iced and and smoothed it over with water to give it a smooth finish. The smaller cake was placed on top. The towers are all made of fondant icing, rolled around a cylinder which has been gladwrapped and left overnight.

Everything you see is eatable except for the candle. I sprinkled pink sugar crystals over the cones. The windows on the towers are just chocolate stuck on with cream cheese icing.
The flowers are just made out of dyed fondant.
The draw bridge is a chocolate covered wafer with has a blob of icing underneath so it is on a slight angle and a chocolate finger on either side.
