Coolest Castle Birthday Cake

I had seen a few pictures of the fairy tale castle cake and thought that I’d never be able to put this cake together myself but it wasn’t too bad. I just put some glitter in a little vodka and painted it onto the castle topper. Others I’d seen had been done in food colouring but these looked patchy. Just doing it in glitter gave a perfect finish.

I used lilac for the turretts and pink for the rest and just edged the doors and windows in gold glitter. I put some diamante pins in the top of the turretts to finish it off and a couple of small hand made roses at the side of the opening. I made and covered two different sized round cakes in marzipan and white sugarpaste icing and then over the bottom layer I put over a 2nd piece of pre-rolled and pre-cut 8″ icing so it didn’t cover the cake but gave a frilled effect. I then made 21 small roses in pale pink, pale lilac and white and stuck them onto the precut icing inbetween the “frills”. The hardest part was covering the gap between the top cake and the castle as this didn’t sit flat enough. Lastly I put 3 pale pink and white feathers at the back and a Happy Birthday on the front.

Every body loved the Castle Birthday Cake and a couple of people have asked me to do it for their daughters too. I used the large castle topper as the small one was just too small.

Happy baking….Pat x
