Coolest Castle Cake

My son wanted a sword fighting cake for his 5th birthday. He also said he wanted sharks with his cake. I was baffled but he stuck to his requests. The best I could think of was this castle cake with sword fight scene. He loved it.

I used 4 boxes of cake mix and way too much Wilton’s Icing. I mixed some basic white icing with strawberry jam to make a yummy filling for all layers. I used icing color gels to customize the colors of the icing. Black mixed with the white icing made the gray stone and spray icing color added the textured look for the castle walls.

The base is a basic sheet cake crumbled around the edges for the cliffs. The castle is four 8×8 cakes quartered, layered together and carved for the right shapes. The tops of the towers are frosted granola bars for added stability.

I used fondant for the water topped with white icing for the waves.

Basically, I just played with the shapes and colors. Play around, it was fun!

  1. The description is great, but I just can’t really make it out in the picture, I find it really frustrating how coolest-birthday-cakes adds their logo smack dab on the middle of the pictures making it impossible for us to see to get inspiration!! But, from what I could see, it looked great! Good job!
