Cool Orange Homemade Castle Cake with Wilton Cake Set

My grandson Warren is a truck fan, especially construction big rigs. So I designed a Construction Castle cake using the Wilton castle pieces I have on hand. I made two 9×13 layers for the base. I didn’t want to have to buy a long loaf pan, so I purchased a family sized pound cake for the top.

I made construction orange icing. For the pillars, I “glued the chocolate rocks on with grey royal icing. (I did this a couple days prior.) Rice Krispy treats were the turrets, using the form from the castle kit (sprayed the inside with cooking spray). I pushed the krispy mix in tightly and let it set up a bit. You may have to urge them to come out with a table knife. Let them set for a while, then roll in melted chocolate. Set on a smooth surface to set.

I used my imagination and let it run wild. We goy him a 100 piece construction set and used part of the set to decorate the cake. I cut a bit of the top of the turret and “glued” a birthday candle to the top.

This little 4 year old was blown away! Hope you have fun – I did!
