Cool Homemade Castle Cake Idea Using the Wilton Castle Set

This Castle Cake Idea was such fun to do! I couldn’t help but anticipate my 4 year old daughter’s reaction when she would see it and I think I captured that on pictures and video. What a treat!

I started with making two different sized round cakes. It could of been three but I didn’t have a smaller cake for the third size or larger to make it bigger so I did two layers.

The cake and icing is your Betty Crocker cake mix and vanilla icing with added food coloring for your color varieties.

The pillars are a kit but you can achieve the look with any light weight tubing and ice cream cones. I had iced everything the night before separately so they would harden and not smudge when piecing it together. Be sure and wait to ice the cake when it is completely cool or you will have crumbs and pieces in your icing.

I chose to go with a strawberry vanilla cake mix in case this happened. Be very generous with your icing and you will have less chance of crumbs as well. Be careful not to overlap when icing the cake. One good swipe and move on. Will also give you less chances to gather crumbs from the cake.

The next day is when I pieced it together and did the finishing touches. With the same icing

just changed the colors when needed. The flowers and such is done with a cake decorating kit with your different heads to get your flowers and so on.

I used about 4 large Betty Crocker icings to make the cake. So don’t be shy with icing. I hope this is helpful and you enjoy it as much as we all did.
