Homemade Castle in the Clouds Birthday Cake

Homemade Castle in the Clouds Birthday Cake

This cake consists of 1 and a 1/2 - 10" round vanilla cakes coated and filled with vanilla butter cream. The turrets are made well in advance with gum paste so they set hard and are hollow. The turret tops are painted with silver luster powder mixed with a small amount of vodka and sprinkled with white sparkles.

I sandwiched the cakes together and coated with butter cream. I then covered the top with white fondant and then covered the sides with the blue fondant to match the turrets. The brick pattern was made with a rolling wheel tool and put onto the icing before it was placed on the sides of the cake.

Once the homemade castle in the clouds birthday cake was iced and the turrets were in place I iced the board with royal icing and dusted the top of the cake with silver luster dust. Then I constructed the rest of the castle using royal icing to stick everything in place.

The butterflies were made from gum paste and the antennae were made out of very fine decorating wire and stuck onto the walls of the castle with a little royal icing. The clouds were made from gum paste and the swirls on the board are for candles to be inserted.

This is definitely one of the best I've seen! You have really inspired me and the cake I'm making for my daughters 5th birthday. You should consider doing this professionally.
