Coolest Castle Knight Birthday Cake

This homemade castle knight birthday cake was for two boy’s birthdays. I didn’t need a huge amount of cake so for the center I used a box for the 1st layer covered with fondant topped with a square and for the towers I used 2 empty containers of icing covered in buttercream & then fondant to support the round tower tops. It helped to make the cake lighter.

I indented the fondant right away to create depth for the stones then air brushed them in Americolor black. I was going to make the castle gray but wanted a richer color – so used black, copper & brown over the white fondant. I made the dragon in three pieces, the neck with a skewer, body and tail with skewer so I could have them raised by sticking them in the cake a week in advance along with the knights. The knight riding the dragon fell off the morning of the party so I had to rebuild that side because they were too heavy.

Wait until you get the homemade castle knight birthday cake to its party before you put on the characters! I used edible glitter on dowels to make the flags and taped the gold candle under the construction paper. Hope you like it.
