Easy Homemade Cat Cake for a 1st Birthday

This was the first cat cake I ever decorated. It for a friend’s daughter’s first birthday. I made 2 9″ chocolate cakes. Cut a tail out of the edge of one of them keeping the remaining cake as circular as possible (its the head), and then cut a wedge horizontally across the bottom of the the smaller circle, to have a flat side. The wedge was then cut in half to create the ears (there are diagrams for this all over the internet).

Made half a batch of vanilla butter cream and removed about half a cup which I dyed pink. The rest was dyed yellow. Made a batch of chocolate frosting and used that for sticking the cake pieces together as well as the base frosting of the cake. I used a star tip to frost the face and tail, alternating the yellow and brown to give a little more depth. The eyes were done with black gel and the pink was used for the last few touches.
