Cool Homemade Green Caterpillar Birthday Cake

When my son turned 7 I was asked to prepare a cake for the “Bug” theme he had chosen. This cake was made with one box of white cake mix. I baked the cake in a bunt pan and after it cooled I cut it in half, then joined the two halves together on one end to make an S shape.

The frosting was white canned frosting that I colored with green gel food coloring. I frosted the cake completely and then added the decorations. The stripes and antennas were made with red licorice strips that I cut. The eyes and spots were candy tarts of different sizes that I purchased at the candy store at our local mall.

I found many of the ideas for this cake on this website and was able to create an original caterpillar for my boy. He loved the cake and the party where everyone received a bug box from the dollar store and were able to collect the lady bugs we released in the backyard.
