Homemade Caterpillar Cake

I used a Wilton 6 inch round pan for this caterpillar cake. After baking I cut the top off to make it level and let it cool. Once the cake was cool, I coated it with chocolate buttercream and placed in the refrigerator for 20 minutes.

I smoothed chocolate marshmallow fondant over the cake and trimmed edges with a pizza cutter. I then took yellow, blue, purple, green and red fondant and cut out small 1-2 in. circles. I attached each one after brushing with a small amount water. Then I rolled balls of yellow to make the feet and tail.

I made the facial features with fondant and also attached with water. This cake was super quick and easy. I made it to match my "Caterpillar on a 1" for my son's first birthday.
