Sweet Homemade Buttercream Christening Cake

On the occasion of my grandson, Luke’s, baby christening, I decided to make a cross cake using Wilton’s cross pan. Luke’s niece, Sydney, was also being christened, and since the event was a family event, I decided to include her in the cake, as well.

This presented a challenge as I had to find a way to equitably decorate with baby blue and baby pink. The christening cake was frosted in butter cream frosting in an off-white color. I ended up alternating raised dots in blue, pink, blue pink, and in a nod to my male grandson, I used blue for the “God Bless.” I had a really hard time getting the icing smoothed out and must have used a half a roll of Viva paper towels. Though the pan was molded, it was an older pan and had some flaws.

The cross was not as well defined as I would have wanted.
