Simple Homemade Buttercream Christmas Tree Cake

I used a small size tree cake pan bought at a Christmas Tree Shop. I had enough batter left over from the Christmas Tree cake for 8 cupcakes.

The batter was simply one box of spice cake mix, one can of pumpkin, and almost one full pumpkin can of water.

The cake baked at 350 for about 30 minutes. After cooling thoroughly, I crumb coated it with green tinted frosting. My frosting consists of confectioner’s sugar, shortening, dollop of milk, vanilla extract and almond extract. I didn’t measure anything, so can’t help you there! I wasn’t concerned about the dark vanilla and almond colorings, as the frosting was to be colored anyway.I used Wilton brown food dye for the trunk, otherwise it was generic food color for the rest.

After crumb coating, I used a star tip to decorate most everything.

I used a wide holed tip for the garland, and a ribbon tip for the blue ribbon decorations. Had I made more frosting, I would’ve added more to the tree.
