Homemade Cobra Snake Cake
My son wanted a cobra snake cake for his 5th birthday, and he wanted it to look like a toy cobra snake he saw at Target that was orange with blue stripes. We made 2 chocolate bundt cakes (using cake mixes), as I saw on this site from other snake cakes.
We used the cakes for the body and since we wanted the head to stand up, we used rice crispie treats to form the head. After letting the rice crispie treats cool just a little, we formed the head and then let it cool in its form the rest of the way. We used bamboo skewers to attach the head to the body and though the next morning it had cracked apart a bit, all I had to do was pipe more icing into the crack and it stayed together very well.
We used buttercream frosting to pipe stars over the entire cake and made a fondant tongue so it would stay stiff. My son and his friends loved it, and it was so much fun to make!!
