Coolest Homemade Buttercream Construction Birthday Cake

This Construction birthday cake was for my son’s 4th birthday. He wanted a tractor cake, so I went with the construction theme(he is big time into digging in the dirt and wants to build things all the time, so I figured he’d love it, and he did!).

It was easy to decorate for the party, everything black and yellow. I found some “Caution Tape” and used it like streamers and printed off different road signs and hung them from the streamers and used them as decorations on the table as well. The bottom layer of the cake was a half sheet and the tiers were a 9″ and 6″ double stacked.

The bottom and very top were covered in butter cream, and the middle is chocolate. I found construction workers and have them digging dirt and laying chocolate cement. The dirt is Oreo cookies. I used a mortar and pestle to grind them very fine. Around the bottom layer there are fondant hammers, saws, screwdrivers and wrenches. I couldn’t find all the extras at the store that I wanted to have so I dug thru his toy box and found barricades and cones (washed them of course!).

Everyone loved it! The favorite part everyone told me was the cookie crumbles on top! I definitely had fun making this one!
