Cool Homemade Construction Birthday Cake for a 3 Year Old

I made this Construction birthday cake for my grandson’s 3rd birthday. I made the rocks a day ahead of time out of fondant. I do not like to use fondant if I can help it but just a little was fine. The dirt is ground up Oreo cookies piled on top of black butter cream icing.

I purchased the trucks and signs at my local Dollar General store. He is a typical boy and likes anything trucks and cars. He favors fire trucks but that was his cake last year. I made the cake out of a white cake mix and covered it in chocolate icing to start with. I then striped the sides yellow and black to represent construction warning tape and grass around the top edge. I placed all of the pieces accordingly to create a construction site, constructing the 3 in a road for his 3rd birthday.

It was a total hit with birthday boy and guests. I got the idea for this cake from several cakes I found online. I took the ideas and created my own.
