Fun Homemade Construction Cake

This Construction Cake was for my grandson Ashley’s 3rd birthday party. I baked a chocolate cake, split it in half and filled it with Oreo Cookie frosting, then I covered it with green fondant. I used cut out sheets in black for the road.

The trucks and construction vehicles I purchased, the rocks in the dump truck are actual rock looking candy coated chocolate. I used crumbled chocolate wafer cookies for the dirt. I filled the shovel on the diggers with frosting so the cookie crumbs would stay when I transported the cake.

I also filled the dump truck with frosting before I loaded them with the chocolate “rocks”. This made it so fun for the kids at the party when it was cake time. They each grabbed a vehicle with chocolate goodies before they got their cake and ice cream.

The cake took me about 2 days to put together. Day 1 I baked the cake, let it cool and split it. I used Oreo cookie frosting to fill the middle. I put the cake in the freezer over night so it was easy to put the fondant on and decorate it the following day.

Very easy to do. It was the coolest cake I’ve ever made.
