Cool Homemade Chocolate Construction Cake

I made this construction cake last year for my son’s 2nd birthday. I started with frosting a 9 x 13 rectangular cake and adding a two layer 8 inch cake on top. I placed the round cake on a cardboard circle and used wooden dowels in the rectangle cake for support. I cut out a triangle piece of the top and turned it upside down and put it in front of the two layer cake to make the incline.

I used toy construction trucks from the toy store instead of the usual cake decoration toys that break the next day. After making chocolate butter cream frosting and frosting the both cakes I added Whoppers candies around the base and Milk Duds for the rocks. Green butter cream frosting using the pull out fur tip was used for the grass and crushed up Oreos was used for the dirt.
