Easy and Fun Homemade Construction Site Cake

This Construction Site Cake is a 12×18 sheet cake I made for my son’s 3rd birthday party. It was VERY easy, and everyone was extremely impressed. I frosted the whole cake with chocolate frosting. I then outlined the road with knife. I used the Wilton grass/hair tip to make the green grass.

Then, I put black icing down for the road (warning, black icing doesn’t taste so good!) with yellow lines. I then carved out a hole that I filled with crushed Oreos for the digger, and put a mound of Oreos as a pile of dirt for the dump truck. The excavator is putting some mixed crumbs onto the road. I sprinkled some graham cracker crumbs around.

As a final touch, I placed some crushed Oreos around the side (just by pressing them in with my hand – it was a little messy, but that’s ok for under a construction site!) and then pressed in some gummy worms. I added some plastic trees and signs I bought at the store. It took about 45 minutes to decorate and everyone thought it was store bought!

I’ve written this detailed article on creating this construction cake…
