Cool Homemade Cupcake Birthday Cake and Smash Cake

I made this 1st Cupcake Birthday Cake for my friend’s daughter. I used the Wilton pan (with the 40% off coupon at Micheal’s) and 2 9inch rounds for the bottom. For the smash cake I used a big muffin tin for top and trimmings from the rounds for bottom.

Boxed cake mix and canned frosting worked just fine. The pink is strawberry flavor and the rest vanilla. For the big frosting swirls on top I used a large star tip and had to thicken frosting with powdered sugar so they would stay in place.

The huge sprinkles are Necco wafers and are much bigger and cheaper than the ones Wilton makes.

  1. I really liked this idea and I like that you did a smaller individual cake for the party girl. I love to do that too. I will be using this idea, too.
