Homemade Curious George 1st Birthday Cake
I made this Homemade Curious George 1st Birthday Cake for a friend's son's birthday. Because I enjoy the decorating process more than the baking process, I just used a cake mix to make this cake and some cupcakes. It is frosted with buttercream frosting (confectioners sugar, milk, butter, Crisco, vanilla). I drew a Curious George onto paper, then used it to frost the cake.
To make the bananas, we were hoping to buy Runts and pull out the bananas, but my grocery store didn't have any. Instead, we bought Laffy Taffy and cut the banana ones into strips. We bent the strips so that they would be curved like bananas. When I did the lettering, I tried to make it look like sticks that had been tied together to make the lettering. I have a few Wilton tips and a piping bag that I used for the lettering, piping, and trees.
I hope that this helps you to make your Curious George cake! By the way, I am just a mom and a preschool teacher, with no art or cake training. If I can do it, you can too!
