Homemade Curious George Birthday Cake

I am a born procrastinator, but occasionally, it works for me. I printed out a George mask and after frosting the cake yellow, I poked thumbtacks carefully through the printed out sheet following the lines like a connect the dots. I then carefully held the sheet over the frosted cake and laid it down to where the tacks were holding up the sheet.

After removing the sheet I then had a "connect the dots" to work with. I lined it with black frosting with a small hole tip. I filled in the brown and light brown colors with the same tip by squeezing each line right next to the other. To get it smooth, I used a potter tool. It helps to wet the tool in water before and leave it kinda damp so the frosting doesn't stick to it. Don't worry, the icing will dry up later.

My technique was to gently tap the icing in the corners and occasionally spread out the icing in the wider spaces. I used the same technique to do the eyes by squeezing on dots and squishing them flat with the tool.

Everyone commented on the cake. I guess I work well under pressure.
