Curious George Cake
This Curious George cake is my 2nd fondant cake. My nephew wanted a Curious George cake for his 4th birthday. I have seen cakes made as the "big yellow hat" and I thought that would be cool as a cake topper. So that was made out of a 2 layers of a 4" pan and then shaped freehand when cooled.
The bottom 2 tiers are 2 layers each and came from the curious George theme off of the invitation card. A 7" and a 10". The banana trees were made out of gumpaste. The presents were made out of fondant, Curious George is a plastic cake topper and I bought runts to go around the middle tier. Everything was edible except Curious George and the trees.
Since I am new to decorating I was a little disappointed with the red color. It seemed forever to get it red so I kept adding black because I didn't want it pink. I added too much black and ended up with a ruby red. I would of liked a brighter red but I got it in my next cake, Spiderman cake. It just takes some practice. There was lots of cake left over.
