Homemade Curious George Cake

My niece Summer is obsessed with Curious George. Most of her imaginative play includes the man with the yellow hat and George gets blamed for things Summer does. I used a Curious George party plate for my design of this Curious George Cake.

Cut 2 round cakes and some cupcakes into all the pieces. I used store-bought frosting and cake mix and just cut my shapes as needed. All of the writing and the black outlining on George is melted dark chocolate melted and piped on.

I used fondant for the brim of the hat and for the balloons and the eyes. It was helpful to trace the outline of things with a toothpick before piping and adding different colored icings. The hat is two cupcakes on top of each other and sculpted into the right shape.
