Homemade Dalek Birthday Cake
Our family is Who crazy. For my son's 14th birthday, I wanted to make a Dalek cake. I saw so many awesome cakes online and thought "No way can I do that".
Easier done than I thought and went ahead with this Homemade Dalek Birthday Cake. I made 3 8"x3" round cakes (1 for the base, 2 stacked for the Dalek). I basically traced a Dalek toy for a pattern, blew it up, and straightened the curves with a ruler. I used this pattern to cut through my partially frozen stacked cake.
The trickiest part was fondant. It was my first time using it EVER. I probably should have experimented with a plain shape but considering my lack of skill it turned out all right.
I made the arms/eye myself with sugar paste. You can't tell but they are silver dusted. I also brushed my Dalek with silver dust to make him look a little more metal-like. Black m&m's finished it. Walla. Exterminate!
