Simple Black Darth Vader Cake

I made this Darth Vader cake for my son’s 4th birthday. He is a huge Star Wars fan. I searched the web for a picture of Darth Vader that I blew up to the size I wanted and then printed it out. I then used it as an outline for the cake. I wanted the cake to be some what dimensional so I built up the mouth section and middle of helmet up with the extra cake pieces that I had left over from making the shape I wanted.

Once these sections were built up I just used a butter cream icing and tinted it black (this took a ton of food coloring to get it just the right color of black). I also used the black butter cream icing to build up the eyebrows to make it look more like Darth’s helmet. I used red food gel for the eyes and white/silver food gel for the accents on his mouth piece. I used a funfetti boxed caked mix for the cake!

It is kind of hard to see the built up sections of the cake from the pictures, but it turned out really well. My son and all our party goers loved it!
