Homemade Diego Birthday Cake
My son picked a Diego theme for his 6th birthday. This particular Diego Birthday Cake was one of my easier creations thanks to a few pre-purchased toy props and a hunt through our toy box.
I started with a one-layer cake baked in a large metal roasting pan however this could probably be scaled down to a 9x13 size. I used several boxed cake mixes to fill the pan approximately 1/2 full with batter. I used buttercream frosting mixed with white canned frosting to frost the sides and river portion of the cake. I colored with a leaf green color to frost the grassy part and added mounds of "brush" with a leaf tip. I spread some blue writing gel onto the river to give it more of a watery look. Topped the cake with a Diego and Baby Jaguar toy we had and some of the animals, trees, rock and fence that came in a jungle/wild animal pack I'd purchased at Toys R Us. It's not shown in this picture but I put a numeral 6 candle just above my son's name beside Diego. He loved it!
