Homemade Dino Cake

For this Dino cake I used two 9" round cakes. I also used a template that can be found at: http://www.bettycrocker.com/NR/rdonlyres/302061DE-E198-46D1-AAAB-CF7D64007848/0/dinosaur_cake_instruction.pdf , if this link doesn't work go to Betty Crocker.com, type Dinosaur Cake in the search box on the upper right-hand side and it should be the first cake that pops up, you will be able to access the dinosaur template from that page.

This cake was really easy to make. I used a white cake mix, store bought butter cream icing that I tinted neon green, 5 large marshmallows that I cut crossways to make the spikes on his back, one mini marshmallow that I cut in half for his eyes, some blue tinted buttercream for his spots and toes and finally some white buttercream for his teeth. I had a bit of batter left over so I made 2 mini cupcakes and stuck spiral candles in them.

I found that it was easier to carve the dinosaur from the 2 round cakes after they had spent about an hour in the freezer. There were less crumbs that way. I also applied a thin crumb coat using the neon green icing to help seal in any loose crumbs and then popped it back in the freezer for about 45 mins to set before I applied my final layer of icing.

Coolest Dino Cake

Yr dino cake looks super. My 4 year old grandson has requested I make a dino cake for his 5th birthday, and I cannot get the template. Do you still have it, as I would really love it as I am not very good at designing cakes myself! If so can you please email to me at charmante(at)mwebbiz.co.za

This cake is amazing. My friend and I just made it and boy it is scrumptious and looks adorable even without its tail and left foot. We used skittle polka dots and made it blue but whatever works.
